Guided Tours & Group Bookings
We welcome groups of any size to the garden at East Bergholt Place. The 20-acre garden and arboretum is particularly known for its magnolias, camellias and rhododendrons and is best seen in the spring. There is a splendid display of daffodils early in the year and fine examples of yew topiary as well as two ornamental ponds and many rare and unusual trees and shrubs. We have created a waterside walk which has taken in a further 5 acres of garden.
Rupert Eley is delighted to take groups around the garden and these can be arranged either midweek or in the evening, (but not at weekends). The cost is £10.00 per person for groups of 15 and more.
Please note: Although we are a free access garden for Royal Horticultural Society members this does not apply to groups of 10 or more, or visits on Sundays
If you would like to make your own way round the garden without a guided tour the cost is £7.00 per person in March and July – Sept and £8.00 during April, May and June. This should be paid by the group leader and we advise you to book.
We do have a cafe and morning and/or afternoon coffee/teas can be arranged with home-made cakes. It is helpful to be given rough numbers for catering. We do have toilet facilities (including disabled). We also run a specialist plant centre which has been set up in the Victorian walled garden and it is from here that we serve teas. This will be open for any visit.
We recommend about 2 hours for the visit, a guided tour will last about 1 hour 20 minutes and will leave your group time to ask questions or browsing in the Plant Centre. We also recommend sensible, stout outdoor shoes and to carry a stick, as most of the paths are of grass and can be uneven, slippery and wet at times, particularly after rain.
We do recommend booking for a large party we can then reserve parking on the hard gravel and be on site to welcome you and would ask you always to confirm your booking about 10 days before with numbers.
